Entering his 14th season on the Ram basketball coaching staff is Mike Branson, a 1992 Shepherd graduate and former Ram player. 
Branson is responsible for on court teaching at practice and specializes in defense. Here, students can feel comfortable in their own skin as they step outside their comfort zone and grow.

Mike believes in Shepherd and what we do and he is committed to getting Shepherd basketball to the top of the MEC.. 2015-2016:As a freshman, played in all 23 games, starting in 16 of themaveraged 7.3 points per game led the team in 3 point field goals, shooting 41.3% (33-80)finished the season with 9 steals and 8 assists. There are many ways to be brave. We are very fortunate to have a former Ram player on our staff. Branson isnt a stepping stone to the next stop, its a foundation of character for a life-long journey. 
First team All-State in 2017 with Ryle High School, as well as earning a spot on the Kentucky Junior All-Star Team, Seven-year letter winner in softball where she has racked up three first-team All-State honors (2015, 16, 17), Helped Ryle to a third-place finish at the 2014 Regionals, and 2015 Regional runners up, Also played four years of basketball, where in 2015 she scored the most points and had the best free throw percentage on the team, Plays shortstop, third base, second base and centerfield. He also assists in program fundraising and community and alumni relations . 2016-2017: As a sophomore, started in 9 out of 26 games played and averaged 18.5 minutes per game finished the season with a 38.2% field goal percentage and a 31.5% three-point field goal percentage also shot 54.5% from the free throw line had 26 rebounds, 11 steals and 17 assists. Our club sports operate independently. It looks different for everybody. Branson grew up in Shepherdstown and has a brother, Carlton, who also played for the Rams. 2017-18:As a junior, was one of five Bobcats to appear in all 28 gamesshot 43% from the floor, 29% from distance and 72% from the charity stripeaveraged 4.2 points and one rebound per gameof his 28 rebounds, 19 of them came on the offensive glassnotched his best game in a win over Benedictine University at Mesa on 1/6, scoring aseason-high 15 points, recording two blocks and one steal. All spectators at indoor games must wear masks at all times.
